2024 Republican Party vice presidential candidate selection

This article lists potential candidates for the Republican nomination for Vice President of the United States in the 2024 presidential election. Former president Donald Trump, the 2024 Republican presumptive nominee for President of the United States, will choose his running mate at some point before the start of the 2024 Republican National Convention on July 15.

Trump's criteria for his running mate is primarily loyalty, according to multiple sources.[9][10][11][12]


In early 2024, Trump was reportedly encouraged to consider a woman or black man as his running mate.[13][14]


Trump initially acknowledged a total of six names on his vice presidential shortlist at a Fox News townhall with Laura Ingraham in February 2024.[15] Of those six, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declined to be considered that same month,[16] while primary opponent Vivek Ramaswamy was ruled out as a potential pick by Trump the following month.[17] South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem was ruled out as a potential pick by Trump in April 2024, as a result of the state's hardline stance on abortion.[18][19] The remaining three are listed here:
