History[edit]
2019–2023: Formation and introduction[edit]
On January 11, 2019, rapper-producer Zico founded his own agency, KOZ Entertainment, after departing with Seven Seasons.[3] Later, the agency was acquired by Hybe Corporation in 2020 as a subsidiary.[4]
In February 2023, Zico confirmed the agency's plans of launching a boy band, with himself serving as its producer.[4] Media outlets reported that the group, the first to be produced by a second-generation idol, was to debut in May of that year.[5] BoyNextDoor was formally introduced on April 16, through the release of an animated video on YouTube.[6] The members of the band were introduced on May 14, through a series of GIFs released across social media platforms, depicting each member.[7]
Artistry[edit]
BoyNextDoor's music has been self-described as "easy listening and natural".[26][27] With the members involving themselves in the production of their music the band aims to create music about "the daily lives of their peers".[28]
