JHS is a focus option Middle College Program for students who want a more advanced learning experience. Students will both take classes at Jeff and at Portland Community College. Eighth graders at Faubion K-8, Vernon K-8, Tubman MS, and Green MS are given the option to attend Jeff or their neighborhood high school (which is Roosevelt, Grant, or McDaniel High Schools).[5] Students living outside of these boundaries can still apply to JHS with a lottery system.[6]

Ninth graders given the enrollment choice are guaranteed to attend Jefferson. In eleventh grade, all students need to be evaluated by the principal.
