Early life[edit]
Maisie Hannah Peters[1] was born on 28 May 2000[2] in Steyning, a small town in West Sussex, England to a teacher and communications worker.[3] She has a twin sister, Ellen, who has been featured on her YouTube channel and was the inspiration behind Peters' 2021 single "Brooklyn".[4]
Peters began singing around age eight, performing in choirs.[5] She wrote her first song at age nine[6] and began writing songs regularly at the age of 12, after borrowing her friend's guitar for a school project.[7] She attended Steyning Grammar School, where she won the 2015 annual talent show with a performance of her own composition "Electric".[8] At age 15, she began busking on the streets of Brighton and uploading original songs to YouTube.[9] She also did acting with Ariel Company Theatre.[10]
Artistry and influences[edit]
Peters possesses a soprano voice.[35] She is a self described "massive fan" of Taylor Swift, while also expressing admiration for English-Irish girl group Girls Aloud and English artist Lily Allen.[7] She names F. Scott Fitzgerald and Donna Tartt as her literary influences.[36] She has also cited Arctic Monkeys, My Chemical Romance, Florence and the Machine, All Time Low and Fall Out Boy as influences in her more pop rock songs.[3]
